Outside of clubs and classes, I enjoy challenging myself to creative projects. The majority of these projects are worldbuilding related, meaning that I create a fictional world based on real world science and populate it with fictional languages and cultures. My worldbuilding hobby has led me to join a forums that runs larger worldbuilding projects focused on collaborate. Inspired by these fictional worlds, I began to use my design knowledge to create physical models of places within these worlds. While somethings I change the details of the world and end projects, I learn from these experiences and there are some projects I am proud of and some that I am working on right now.
The first collaborative worldbuilding project I worked on ended in the Summer of 2023. I dedicated hours writing about the cultural group I controlled as part of the project and I learned the basics of linguistics to work on a fictional language for my people. To remember the project, I decided to make a globe of the world.
While this project would traditionally be easy to complete since I used the aid of a website to help transform the rectangular map of the world to a globe, I wanted the globe to be of a more impressive size. I used an Anycubic Photon Mono 4k resin printer to 3D print the model. The size of the print area of the printer did not allow me to print the entire globe at once so I needed to split the globe into eighths and fasten it together after printing. I also added a base and some changes to allow for a globe topper. The parts required several test prints for me to figure out how to place the supports so the parts would not warp before they are cured. Overall I was happy with the outcome and still keep the model on my desk today.
